In the initial stages I was worried about getting a job while studying, but the Joblinx service at JCU Brisbane helped me a lot to achieve my goal. Software EngineerThe university has an Employment and Careers department (Joblinx), which is managed by extremely professional and experienced staff. They gave me lots of advice and helped me address areas to improve, such as interview techniques and how to 'sell' my skills and talents to an employer.
Joblinx placed me at Mincom (the market leader in asset management software) as a Software Engineer. I was able to utilise the skills and knowledge gained through my studies and apply them to many projects. For example, I was able to work on the latest Mincom product - Ellipse 8.2.
During my work experience I was also able to expand my practical skills in technologies such as Java, Flex, Oracle, Cloud computing and much more!

JCU Brisbane graduateOne of my achievements at James Cook University is the joint degree I obtained which is the Master of Business Administration/Master of Professional Accounting. James Cook University educated me and also assisted me with finding work experience. One of the departments I have to mention here is Joblinx which has helped me a lot without asking anything in return. Through Joblinx, I got my internship with Mincom which is a large firm specialising in solutions for mining, natural gas, defense, public infrastructure, etc. I felt this vital experience prepared me for the next step in my career. It gave me the opportunity to open my eyes to the real work place.
My time with JCU was very precious as I have been trained as an internationally minded, efficient person. With all my knowledge and skills I obtained from JCU, I am now more confident to look forward to life in Australia.

Coordinator at AIMQ Online at Australian Institute of Management (AIM)I have just completed my Bachelor of Business (International Business/Hospitality Management). I came to Australia 2 years ago to pursue a degree. I decided to come to Brisbane because it is a smaller city compared to Sydney or Melbourne. Why? Because I wanted to be in a growing city with business opportunities.
Upon my arrival I was lonely. I did not know a single soul in Brisbane. As I commenced my studies at JCU Brisbane that all changed, not only did the uni offer me an education, I was also guided in terms of my career and helped me to build strong and professional relationship with my lecturers, class mates and the staff members at JCU Brisbane.
It was important for me to find a job while I studied, because I wanted to gain professional experience while studying. This was so my qualification looked stronger with experience behind it. Being new to this country I had absolutely no idea how and where to start looking and applying for jobs. Joblinx was the answer to my questions. Joblinx offered great workshops which ranged from how to write a resume, understanding the Australian business manners and etiquettes, to interview techniques. These workshops were a great start as they allowed me to get my mentality and work culture adjusted to fit the wants and needs of the Australian employer.
Within 2-3 weeks I found my first Job at The Brisbane Entertainment Centre as a bartender, thanks to Joblinx. The Joblinx staff members were very supportive and prepared me well for the interview. Since then I have worked at many different places and I am currently employed fulltime by The Australian Institute of Management (AIM) as the Coordinator of AIMQ Online - the e-learning face of AIM.
